This is a pretty unorthodox post. But I'm gonna brag for a bit .... I GOT A PUPPY! His name is Jax. No I did not name him after the League of Legends character.
I've posted pictures of him, but here's Jax's story.
On Valentines an awesome lady named Heather found Jax, his 3 sisters and mother on the side of the road ... eating road kill. There was a box near by that said "free puppies". This road was Interstate 70! She immedietely rescued them and took him to her vet to make sure they were okay. They turned out just fine.
Once old enough, his sisters were immedietely adopted out, but Jax did not have a home yet. About 1 month ago a lady decided she wanted to adopt him. Jax was already 20 pounds at this point. Because Jax gained 5 pounds the 1st week she decided she no longer wanted him and found a new home for him. (God forbid he's a growing puppy ...) She finally told Heather 2 weeks later that she got rid of him. Heather tracked down the new owner and asked to visit Jax. When she got there he was very thin and chained to a tree. She immedietely rescued him from this situation and brought him home. She desperately tried to find a new home for him but noone wanted a big dog.
In steps Jez. I heard this story and absolutely fell in love with him. He's a rottweiler/labrador mix. Currently 4 months old and weighs 30 pounds. He's a big ball of love and a bed hog.
I didn't tell his story to make anyone seem like a hero, including myself ... but I am wanting to make it aware to get your pets spayed or neutered. There are a lot of unwanted animals in this world and it's horrible that someone would just leave puppies on the side of an interstate without even placing them in a shelter. Puppies (even in kill shelters) do get adopted and fast.
I volunteered for Friends of Charlie's Place in Colorado. This is a place that helped newly placed adoptions with vet bills and other care for the animal once it was placed in a home. I saw so many horrible abuse cases, especially after pitbulls were banned from Denver. People literally brought their pitbulls up in the mountains and left them. There were several killed by motorist and mountain lions. Another case I saw was "slim". By the time Slim was rescued from his abuse situation, he was a 6 year old black lab and only weighed 22 pounds. His finger nails had never been cut. But let me tell you ... he was the most loving dog I have ever met. Even though he was left to starve, tied up outside and abused daily, he still loved people.
Just be aware of the animal situation that goes on around you. Be kind to our 4 legged friends!
I've posted some pictures of Jax, he doesn't sit still long enough to take good ones.
